Air conditioners have a tendency to break at the worst possible time. If you notice anything that indicates your system is about to malfunction, you should get in touch with a professional to diagnose the problem. Read on to learn how you should do if your AC system isn’t cooling your home properly.
When the AC unit stops blowing cold air, there’s certainly a mechanical or an electrical fault. If you have a programmable unit, you might want to shut it down completely and wait for the AC system to reset itself.
While this doesn’t always eliminate the problem, doing so will save you a lot of time and worry, in case it’s only a computer issue. If there’s no change after you restart the system, you need to look further for a solution.
In some cases, there’s a fault with the AC thermostat. As a result, the temperature controls won’t give the AC unit the right information.
Check to see if turning the temperature up or down makes a difference. If only hot air comes out of the AC system, regardless of the temperature you set your thermostat to, it might be time to contact a service technician.
Debris, dust and other particles can sometimes build up in condensers, which makes the unit less efficient. Don’t attempt to take your unit apart on your own to look for problems. If you suspect there’s a blockage that makes the motor work harder and less efficiently, contact a trained, qualified and insured professional for service.
